Today I hit 2,000 locations on my Pokémon Postcard locator!
To be honest, I would have hit that number about 3 months ago, but back in March of this year, Google removed all the thumbnails from my 1,500+ locations up to that point. I have spent the last 3 months doing two things: trying to restore the thumbnails for those locations and removing ones that I had no hope of ever restoring (or it would have been months or years before I would have been able to go to a given location to get them). In all, I restored about 1,300 locations through weekend trips and during errands.
During the restoration process I also began the removal process, taking out any locations that I couldn’t get to. This saddened me, because there were a good number of really cool spots that I hated to get rid of. In the process, I also found several locations that no longer exist in the game which was also sad. But, during this process I put into place things which will prevent this catastrophe from happening again.
That being said, I will eventually be leaving Google My Maps and moving to a different system. I don’t trust them not to do this again.
I’m not sure how long I’ll keep going with this project, but at least I’ll finish the year out. I should have about 2,300 by then.
