Instagone

I seem to be on a roll, getting rid of apps lately! Next up is Instagram.

Anyone from Instagram who found their way here via the link on my IG account: welcome to my insanity!

Instagram has been going downhill for years. Ever since it was bought by Facebook, it has become a cesspool of advertising, AI slop, “suggested” accounts to follow, reels getting shoved in your face, etc. I have to jump through hoops just to see the posts made by the few people I follow – and, conversely, I am quite sure that, being a small account, I’ve gotten little-to-no exposure for my photography work. The only reason I signed up to IG all those years ago was photography. Show off my work, maybe attract clients, connect with other photographers, and so on.

Those days are gone.

Half of my feed is targeted advertising based off the algorithm and analytics. Lots of softcore porn, and some actual porn. Not what I signed up for, and so I stopped using it. Today I decided to bite the bullet: as of the end of the year, I’m done with it. It’s become useless to me and just another place for the corporations to gather data about me and sell to the highest bidder, while simultaneously pushing ads down my throat. Not what I signed up for either.

Not that anyone reading this will really care about my little rant here, but felt like putting it out there. Social media pretty much sucks now days – and although I love Bluesky, I am sure that, given enough time, it will turn into drek as well. They always do. The companies get a taste for cheese and next thing you know, your entire feed is just garbage. Oh well. Hope everyone is having a good one!
